KEDIT Q & A: How can I move my KEDIT for Windows settings to another machine?

Q: I'm getting a new computer. How can I move my KEDIT for Windows settings to another machine?

A: If you are moving to a new machine, or are installing KEDIT for Windows on an additional machine, and you want to keep the same KEDIT settings as you currently have, you can do the following:

  1. Using your KEDIT for Windows installation disks, install KEDIT for Windows on the new machine.

  2. Most of your KEDIT settings are stored in the file KEDITW.INI, which is kept in your main Windows directory, usually called C:\WINDOWS. The key step in preserving your settings is to copy the KEDITW.INI file from the Windows directory of your existing machine to the Windows directory of your new machine.

  3. If you have created a KEDIT for Windows profile, usually called WINPROF.KEX, you should also copy this file to your new machine. WINPROF.KEX is most often stored in the USER subdirectory of the KEDIT for Windows installation directory; this is usually either C:\Program Files\KEDITW\USER or C:\KEDITW\USER. Of course, if you have written any other KEDIT macros that you depend on, you should copy those as well.
