Installing KEDIT for Windows
Version 1.5 of KEDIT for Windows comes
with two versions of the program: a 16-bit module for use under Windows 3.1,
Windows 3.11, Windows for Workgroups, and OS/2; and a 32-bit module for use
under Windows 95/98/NT/2000/Me.
Three diskettes are supplied:
- Setup Disk 1 for the 16-bit Windows 3.1 version of KEDIT (which is
also used with Windows 3.11 and Windows for Workgroups, and under OS/2)
- Setup Disk 1 for the 32-bit Windows 95/98/NT/2000/Me version of KEDIT
- Setup Disk 2, which is used as the second disk for both the 16-bit
Windows 3.1 version and the 32-bit Windows 95/98/NT/2000/Me version
To install KEDIT for Windows:
- Put the appropriate Setup Disk 1 into your floppy drive. Use the
16-bit Windows 3.1 Setup Disk 1 if you are running Windows 3.1, Windows 3.11,
Windows for Workgroups, or OS/2. Otherwise, use the 32-bit Windows 95/98/NT/2000/Me
Setup Disk 1.
- Select Run from the File menu of the Windows Program
Manager, or from the Windows Start menu. Then
type
a:setup
and press the Enter key.
- Follow the on-screen instructions displayed by the Setup
program.
One of the questions that the Setup program asks is what directory KEDIT for
Windows should be installed in. By default, KEDIT for Windows is installed in
the \KEDITW directory under Windows 3.1, or in the \ProgramFiles\KEDITW
directory under Windows 95/98/NT/2000/Me, and we recommend that you accept this
default. In particular, you should not install KEDIT for Windows into the
directory where KEDIT for DOS or KEDIT for OS/2 is already installed, since the
files from the text mode and Windows versions of KEDIT should not be intermixed.
If you run into any problems with the Setup program see the file
INSTALL.TXT in the root directory of Setup Disk 1, which has some additional
notes and has instructions for manually installing KEDIT for Windows.
Network installation
You can install a copy of KEDIT for Windows on a network server and access it
from individual workstations. Note that if multiple users will concurrently
access a copy of KEDIT for Windows that is stored on a network server, KEDIT's
license agreement requires that you purchase multiple KEDIT for Windows
licenses, covering the maximum number of users involved. See the KEDIT for
Windows license agreement or contact Mansfield Software Group if you have any
questions about licensing KEDIT for installation on a network server.
See the file INSTALL.TXT on Setup Disk 1 for some notes about installing KEDIT
for Windows on a network.
