Installing KEDIT for Windows 1.5
Version 1.5 of
KEDIT for Windows comes with two versions of the program: a
16-bit module for use under Windows 3.1 and a 32-bit module for use under
Windows 95/98/NT/2000/Me.
Three diskettes are supplied:
- Setup Disk 1 for the 16-bit Windows 3.1 version of KEDIT
(which is also used with Windows 3.11 and Windows for Workgroups,
and under OS/2)
- Setup Disk 1 for the 32-bit Windows 95/98/NT/2000/Me version
of KEDIT
- Setup Disk 2, which is used as the second disk for both
the 16-bit Windows 3.1 version and the 32-bit Windows 95/98/NT/2000/Me
version
To install KEDIT for Windows:
- Put the appropriate Setup Disk 1 into your floppy drive.
Use the 16-bit Windows 3.1 Setup Disk 1 if you are running Windows
3.1, Windows 3.11, Windows for Workgroups, or OS/2. Otherwise, use
the 32-bit Windows 95/98/NT/2000/Me Setup Disk 1.
- Select Run from the File menu of the Windows Program
Manager, or from the Windows Start menu. Then
type
a:setup
and press the Enter key.
- Follow the on-screen instructions displayed by the Setup
program.
Some notes on the installation process:
- You do not need to uninstall older versions of KEDIT for
Windows before running the KEDIT for Windows 1.5 Setup program.
- If the Setup program finds that a copy of KEDIT for Windows
is already installed on your system, it will suggest that you install
KEDIT in the same directory as your previous version of KEDIT. We
recommend that you accept this default.
- The Setup program makes no changes to any of the files in KEDITW's
USER subdirectory. This is the subdirectory where we recommend that you store
your own KEDIT for Windows macros. By leaving its contents unchanged, the
Setup program leaves all of your KEDIT for Windows 1.0 macros available to you
for use under KEDIT for Windows 1.5.
- The first time that you use KEDIT for Windows 1.5, it will recognize
and use the existing KEDIT for Windows 1.0 settings in your KEDITW.INI file.
The main exceptions are the settings for your screen font
(controlled by Options Screen Font) and your printer font (controlled by File
Print Font): the 16-and 32-bit versions of KEDIT for Windows keep separate track
of these fonts. If you are using something other than the default screen and
printer fonts, you will need to re-select these fonts when you begin using the
32-bit version of KEDIT.
- If you run into any problems with the Setup program, see
the file INSTALL.TXT in the root directory of Setup Disk 1 for some
additional notes and for instructions on how to manually install KEDIT
for Windows.
Network installation
You can install a copy of KEDIT for Windows on a network server and
access it from individual workstations. Note that if multiple users
will concurrently access a copy of KEDIT for Windows that is stored
on a network server, KEDIT's license agreement requires that you purchase
multiple KEDIT for Windows licenses, covering the maximum number of
users involved. See the KEDIT for Windows license agreement or contact
Mansfield Software Group if you have any questions about licensing
KEDIT for installation on a network server.
See the file INSTALL.TXT on Setup Disk 1 for some notes about installing
KEDIT for Windows on a network.
